Adult Swim's Leading New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Extension for Seasons 2 and 3.

In October of last year, the late-night programming block saw the return of its unconventional hit, Smiling Friends. Yet, shortly thereafter, the channel unveiled a completely new animated series with a markedly softer vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as heartwarming and calm, reminiscent of a animated take of a laid-back talk show. In an era often marked by bleakness, this show's sincerity found an audience and turned it into a surprise hit.

A Significant Investment

On December 18th, the network made a major announcement: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two additional seasons. This provides creator Joe Cappa a massive runway to further explore the world of the Campbell family. The show centers on three respectful teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their widowed father, with Cappa portraying for all four central characters.

"My deepest thanks go to the fans of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," stated Cappa. "It's thrilling that I get to hang out at the Campbell household for seasons to come."

Network Praise

Accompanying the news praise from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and strangely uncanny." He specifically highlighted the fans who embraced the show and championed its distinctly quirky style.

"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," commented Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"

A Comforting Counterpoint

When it first aired, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family go about their daily lives.

Previously, creator Joe Cappa shared his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its prevailing cynical streak. He linked this trend to a broader media landscape.

“There's this level of irony that we are trapped in,” explained Cappa. “The attitude is that we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we must laugh at something different now. It's time for comedy to grow.”

What Comes Next

Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns locked in for the future, Cappa may well catalyze that very evolution. Or at the very least, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the endearing Campbell clan.

The final episode of Season 1 of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. The complete first season is available for streaming on HBO Max.
